What is calibration?
According to international regulations “calibration procedures shall include specific directions and limits for accuracy and precision. When accuracy and precision limits are not met, there shall be provisions for remedial action to reestablish the limits and to evaluate whether there was any adverse effect on the device’s quality. These activities shall be documented”.
Calibration is a comparison between a known measurement (the standard) and an instrument´s measurement. Typically, the accuracy of the standard should be ten times the accuracy of the measuring device being tested. However, accuracy ratio of 3:1 is acceptable by most international standards. Therefore periodic annual calibrations are fundamental to ensure your instrument´s reliability throughout its life span.
